A semi-inground pool is set partway into the ground instead of sitting fully on top of it. The crew excavates the pool area, set the wall to the depth the yard and the pool model allow, backfill and support the buried side, and finish the exposed side with decking or grade work. It is the usual answer on a sloped yard, where the high side gets cut in and the low side stays above grade.
