What affects the cost

How deep the pool is going in. More bury means more excavation, more spoil, and more support work.
How much fall there is across the yard, and whether the high side can be cut down.
Soil and water table. Sand, hardpan, rock, and high groundwater each change the excavation.
Whether the site needs a retaining wall or grade transition on the cut side.
Access. If a machine cannot reach the area, excavation is slower.
Spoil handling. Dirt that cannot stay on site has to be hauled away.
Deck, ladder, or barrier work around the finished pool.
